LDPE

LDPE is the abbreviation for Low Density Polyethylene plastic, a common type of plastic used to manufacture thousands of different products. This is also just one of the many types of plastic which is suitable for certain types of products, with another common one known as HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), which a harder plastic used for other products. The low melting point and pliability of LDPE makes it perfect for plastic containers and bottles, soft and pliable parts of equipment, and general purpose products. A special tube or pipe called a barrel, with a slow moving screw called an extruder, pushes plastic out into the front of a blow molding machine into a section called the 'head' where it flows into a mold, and then is rapidly cooled into the product. LDPE is heated by special heaters along the barrel and on the head to keep the plastic as a liquid until it is blown out into the mold and shaped by air pressure.

During any plastic manufacturing process, there are always rejects and off-cuts which can come from adjusting the machines to achieve the right thicknesses of the product, and this LDPE scrap can easily be recycled for reuse again.
